Welcome to the November Gratitude & Giving Challenge

October 15, 2026

The November Gratitude & Giving Challenge: Discover your giving style, choose five meaningful actions, and find simple ways to make a difference right here in Arizona.

Have you ever had one of those perfectly ordinary, perfectly good days - and then spent ten minutes scrolling social media and suddenly felt like your life was somehow falling short? Someone is vacationing somewhere spectacular. Someone else's house is impossibly organized. Another person is celebrating a major accomplishment, hosting a Pinterest-worthy dinner party, or apparently raising children who voluntarily put away their laundry. Meanwhile, you're standing in your kitchen wondering what to make for dinner. Again.
It's funny how quickly we can go from feeling perfectly content to feeling like we're behind. We live in a world that is constantly telling us to do more, buy more, achieve more, improve more, and somehow find time to document it all. Even the holidays, which are supposed to be about connection and gratitude, can become another source of pressure. The perfect decorations. The perfect meal. The perfect gifts. The perfect family photo.
But what if this November, instead of trying to create more, we focused on appreciating more? What if we spent a little less time looking at what everyone else has and a little more time noticing what's already good in our own lives? And what if one of the best ways to find more contentment wasn't to acquire something new, but to give a little of ourselves away?
Welcome to the November Gratitude & Giving Challenge. No perfection required.

The Comparison Trap: When Everyone Else's Highlight Reel Becomes Our Measuring Stick

Social media can be wonderful. It connects us with people we love, introduces us to new ideas, and helps us discover experiences and causes we might otherwise never know about. But it also has a way of making ordinary life look remarkably...ordinary. We're comparing our behind-the-scenes reality with everyone else's carefully selected highlights.
We see the beautiful kitchen, not the renovation bills. The family vacation, not the airport meltdown. The successful business, not the years of uncertainty. The immaculate living room, not the pile of laundry just outside the camera frame. And without even realizing it, we begin measuring our own lives against a standard that doesn't tell the whole story.
Here's something worth remembering: Someone else's wonderful life doesn't make yours any less wonderful. And a life doesn't have to look extraordinary online to be extraordinarily meaningful. Sometimes the most beautiful moments are the ones nobody photographs.

Gratitude Isn't Pretending Everything Is Perfect

I think this is an important distinction. Being grateful doesn't mean ignoring life's difficulties, pretending everything is wonderful, or feeling guilty because someone else has it harder. You can be grateful for your home and still be frustrated by the broken air conditioner. You can love your family and desperately need a quiet afternoon alone. You can appreciate your career and still feel overwhelmed. You can recognize the good in your life while also working toward something better.
Gratitude isn't the absence of challenges. It's making room to recognize what's good alongside them. And contentment isn't the same as complacency. You can be ambitious, have goals, want to grow - and still be genuinely happy with the life you're living right now. That's a pretty liberating idea in a world that keeps moving the finish line.

The Power of Enough

When was the last time you looked around and thought: This is enough. Not because everything is perfect. Not because you've accomplished every goal. Not because there isn't something you'd like to change. But because, at this particular moment, you can appreciate what you have without immediately thinking about what's missing. Enough doesn't have to mean forever. It can simply mean today.
A home that provides comfort. People who care about you. A familiar neighborhood. A good meal. A healthy pet curled up beside you. A conversation that makes you laugh. A sunset you almost missed because you were looking at your phone.
Living in Arizona, we're fortunate to have some pretty spectacular reminders to slow down and look around. Sometimes a five-minute walk outside during one of our beautiful November evenings can do more to reset our perspective than another hour of scrolling.
And here's where gratitude becomes something even more powerful. Appreciating what we have can inspire us to share what we can.

Why Giving Back Can Change Our Perspective

There's something about stepping outside our own routines and helping someone else that changes the way we experience the world. It reminds us that we're part of something bigger than our schedules, inboxes, shopping lists, and daily frustrations. It creates connections with people whose experiences may be very different from our own. And it gives us an opportunity to make a tangible difference.
Sometimes that difference is significant. Sometimes it's a decorated meal bag that makes someone smile. A pair of shoes for a child. A few bags of pet food that help a family keep a beloved animal. A thoughtful donation that supports a mother and her baby. None of those actions requires changing the world. But they can change someone's day. And that's worth something.
Through our Operation Give Back initiative at Arizona Inspired Living, one of our biggest goals has always been to make community involvement easy and accessible. Because I know how busy life gets. Most people genuinely want to help. They just don't always know where to start, who needs what, or how to fit volunteering into an already full schedule. So we try to take the complicated part out of it. We identify meaningful needs, coordinate opportunities, and bring people together.
Our philosophy is simple: Just sign up and show up. We'll take care of the rest.
You don't have to organize a fundraiser, commit to volunteering every weekend, or have a lot of money to contribute. Sometimes all it takes is showing up for a couple of hours with a willing heart. And perhaps bringing a friend.

What's Your Gratitude & Giving Style?

Not everyone expresses appreciation or generosity in the same way.
Some people love bringing others together. Some want to roll up their sleeves and tackle a project. Others prefer thoughtful gestures or quiet moments of reflection.
And that's wonderful.
There's no single right way to practice gratitude.
So let's have a little fun.
Take the Gratitude & Giving Style Quiz below to discover which approach feels most natural to you - and get ideas for how to put it into action this November.
The four possible styles are:

Of course, most of us are a combination of these styles. And our answers may change depending on the season of life we're in.
The goal isn't to put yourself in a box.
It's to find a way to give that feels natural enough that you'll actually do it.

The November Choose Five Challenge: 30 Small Ways to Make Life More Meaningful

Here's my challenge for you this month:

Choose just FIVE things from the following list.

Not all 30.

Not one every single day.

Just five.

Some will take a few minutes. Others might take an afternoon. Some cost nothing. Others involve a small donation.

The idea is to choose actions that fit your life and feel meaningful to you.

Reconnect With People

1. Send a handwritten thank-you note to someone who made a difference in your life.
2. Call someone you've been meaning to catch up with instead of sending another text.
3. Invite a friend, neighbor, or family member to coffee.
4. Tell someone specifically what you appreciate about them.
5. Invite someone who might otherwise spend the holiday alone to join you.
6. Have dinner with family or friends with everyone's phones put away.

Quiet the Noise

7. Unfollow or mute social media accounts that consistently make you feel inadequate.
8. Spend one entire evening without social media.
9. Watch an Arizona sunrise or sunset without taking a picture.
10. Write down three ordinary things you're grateful for.
11. Take a walk without headphones, podcasts, or notifications.
12. Have a no-spend weekend and enjoy what you already have.

Give Back to Your Community

13. Purchase an item from a local nonprofit's wish list.
14. Sign up for a volunteer opportunity.
15. Invite a friend or family member to volunteer with you.
16. Support a local small business you've never visited.
17. Deliver a meal or thoughtful care package to someone having a difficult time.
18. Donate useful items to an organization that needs them.
19. Help a neighbor with a small task.
20. Leave a thoughtful review for a local business or service provider who went above and beyond.

Create More Meaning in Everyday Life

21. Let your children choose a cause they'd like to support.
22. Start a family gratitude jar.
23. Host a simple potluck instead of an elaborate dinner party.
24. Share a favorite memory with someone you love.
25. Offer to help care for someone's pets while they manage a difficult situation.
26. Write an encouraging note to a teacher, caregiver, or community worker.
27. Set up a small recurring donation to a cause you care about.
28. Thank someone whose work often goes unnoticed.
29. Start a new holiday tradition that focuses on connection rather than gifts.
30. At the end of November, reflect on which of your five actions made you feel the most fulfilled.
Bonus challenge: Invite a friend to choose five of their own.
You don't even have to choose the same five.
Sometimes simply knowing that someone else is participating makes it easier to follow through.

Four Local Causes, Countless Ways to Make a Difference

One of the things I love most about Operation Give Back is that our charity partners serve different needs within our Arizona community.
Whether your heart is drawn to children, families, people facing serious illness, or our four-legged companions, there's an opportunity to help.

A Little Less Stuff. A Little More Good.

As Thanksgiving approaches, our attention naturally begins turning toward the December holidays. And with that comes the shopping. The decorations. The gifts. The entertaining. The calendars that somehow fill themselves. Before the season gets away from us, I want to offer a different invitation:
What if we made giving back part of our holiday preparations rather than one more thing on our holiday to-do list?
Instead of buying one more decorative item, consider purchasing something from a charity wish list.
Instead of another generic hostess gift, make a donation in someone's honor.
Instead of planning another elaborate gathering, invite friends to bring an item for a holiday collection drive.
Instead of worrying about whether you've done enough, choose one meaningful way to participate.
These don't have to replace all your favorite holiday traditions.
They can become some of your favorite holiday traditions.

Join Us for Our 6th Annual Holiday Extravaganza

One of the highlights of our year at Arizona Inspired Living is bringing our community together for our annual Holiday Extravaganza.
Sunday, December 6, 2026 | 11:00 AM–1:30 PM
This celebration brings together friends, families, neighbors, clients, and community partners to support the organizations doing meaningful work throughout the Valley.
We'll be collecting needed donations for our charity partners and hosting our holiday raffle, with 100% of raffle proceeds going directly to our nonprofit partners.
Our goal this year is to raise more than $8,000 through raffle ticket sales and other contributions.
And there are several ways to help, even before the event.
Contribute to the holiday collection drive. Choose needed items from our current charity wish lists and help us gather supplies for local families, children, and pets.
Donate a raffle prize. If you own a business or would like to contribute an item, gift certificate, experience, or service, raffle donations help us raise funds for our partners.
Make a financial contribution. If shopping or attending isn't practical, financial support can still make a meaningful difference.
Spread the word. Invite friends, family, coworkers, or neighbors to participate.
Come celebrate with us. Sometimes the simplest way to help is simply to show up.
You can find current event details, donation needs, and ways to participate through our Operation Give Back initiative at AZInspiredLiving.com.
Our philosophy is the same as always:
Just sign up and show up. We'll take care of the rest.

The Real Gift of Gratitude

I don't think contentment comes from finally having everything we want. If that were the case, we'd probably never get there. There will always be another project, another goal, another trip, another purchase, another accomplishment, or another beautifully curated life to compare ours against. But gratitude invites us to notice the life happening right in front of us. And giving back reminds us that our lives become richer through the connections we create and the difference we make for others.
So this November, don't worry about doing everything. Don't worry about making it look beautiful online. Don't worry about whether your contribution is big enough. Just choose five things. Make a phone call. Write a note. Watch a sunset. Help a neighbor. Support a cause. Show up.
And perhaps, somewhere along the way, you'll discover that a meaningful life isn't necessarily about doing more. Sometimes it's about noticing more, appreciating more, and sharing a little of what we already have.
From our Arizona Inspired Living family to yours, wishing you a November filled with gratitude, connection, and the simple joy of making a difference.
