Mother’s Day is a cherished time to celebrate the women who nurture, lead, and inspire us — but did you know it began as a movement for peace and community support?
A Brief History of Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day in the United States was first celebrated in 1908, thanks to Anna Jarvis, who wanted to honor her late mother’s tireless work in social activism and community health. Jarvis' mother had organized “Mother’s Day Work Clubs” to promote better hygiene and healthcare. By 1914, President Woodrow Wilson officially declared the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day — a day not only for celebrating moms but recognizing their critical contributions to society.
Today, Mother's Day is celebrated worldwide, though traditions vary. In Thailand, it's observed on the Queen's birthday, while in Ethiopia, families gather for a multi-day feast to honor motherhood!

Mothers, and women in general, are not only the heart of the home — they are pillars of our communities and economy. Here are just a few powerful facts:
Women make up nearly 47% of the U.S. workforce, and the number of mothers who are primary or sole earners for their families has grown dramatically over the past 50 years.
Female-owned businesses account for 42% of all businesses in the U.S., generating $1.9 trillion annually!
Volunteering and Community Impact: Women contribute more volunteer hours and lead more community organizations than men, fueling change from neighborhood schools to national nonprofits.
Every day, women balance the demands of career, family, and community leadership — and they do so with resilience and grace.
1. Set Boundaries Without Guilt
Protect your time and energy. It's okay to say no or reschedule when you need a moment for yourself.
2. Prioritize Self-Care
Self-love isn't selfish. Schedule time for things you enjoy — whether it’s a morning walk, a hot bath, or simply reading a book uninterrupted.
3. Accept Help
You don’t have to do it all. Lean on your support system — friends, family, partners — and let them show up for you too.
4. Celebrate Small Wins
Progress over perfection. Celebrate the tiny victories each day, whether it's checking something off your to-do list or just making it through a tough moment with grace.
5. Stay Connected
Keep nurturing relationships with friends, mentors, and fellow moms. A strong support network can make all the difference.
Mother’s Day is so much more than a holiday — it's a reminder of the incredible strength, love, and leadership that women bring into every part of our lives. Whether you're celebrating a mother, grandmother, mentor, or a dear friend, let’s honor them with gratitude, creativity, and deep appreciation this year (and every day!).
Wishing all the amazing moms out there a joyful, love-filled Mother's Day!
